SBI Prime Credit Card Review – My Thoughts
The SBI Card PRIME is a travel and lifestyle premium card, specially designed for high spenders and regular travellers. The joining fee of ₹2,999, some people might think, but that’s quickly offset by the welcome present of an e-voucher of ₹3,000 from premium brands such as Yatra, Shoppers Stop, and Pantaloons. So in effect, the joining fee is becomes zero at begining.
What makes this card stand out is its high emphasis on travel and lifestyle benefits. The card includes free membership in Trident Privilege Red Tier, which is a huge advantage for anyone who frequently stays at Trident Hotels. It comes with perks such as privileged rates, room upgrades, and late checkouts making business or leisure stays more convenient and rewarding. Also, Club Vistara Silver Tier membership comes with it, where you get a head start on earning Vistara points and gaining priority check-in and other flight privileges.
Lounge access is most required feature for regular travellers. here you get 4 free international lounge visits per annum (through Priority Pass) and 8 domestic lounge visits per year, makes this card perfect for both domestic travelers and global travelers. These perks both comfort and value you, particularly when waiting for long at airports.
The card also incentivizes your spending behaviour. Be it quarterly milestone vouchers from Pizza Hut or a ₹7,000 e-voucher after achieving ₹5 lakh annual spends, the card encourages users to derive maximum value from their spends. Spend-based fee waiver on ₹3 lakh annual spends makes it that much simpler to maintain the card without worrying about the renewal fee.
It’s not all good, though. One of SBI Card PRIME’s weak points is in its fees and finance charges. The interest on unpaid balances is quite high, and the 3.5 percent foreign currency markup fee doesn’t make international shopping as convenient as it could be. The cash advance fees are also a bit on the higher side, which affects those who regularly draw cash out via credit.
